This book is a must-read for anyone who is looking to break a habit or start a new one. In fact, this book is one of the main reasons this blog was born. I won’t get too much into the book for spoilers’ sake, but James began his writing career with a blog. He became an award-winning writer by writing daily blog posts to hone his skills. Now I’m not saying that gaining fame is simple, but he started the same way anyone else would—by writing the first post.
I avoided creating a physio Instagram page and starting a blog for a long time because I felt I didn’t have anything worth sharing; that I didn’t know enough about physiotherapy to put it out for everyone to see. It took months of self-isolation to get my butt in gear but the reality is I’m becoming a better physio, writer, video editor, AND most importantly exercise model for the sole fact that I started creating this content. It has pushed me to learn more about exercise and education so I can share my findings with all of you. The same logic goes for any new activity or goal. They’re easy to put off but once you get rolling the results will surprise you.
The tagline to the book is “Tiny changes, remarkable results.” which is something that has resonated with me since reading it. It’s a phrase I keep in my daily life as well as when educating patients and working on lifestyle factors. If we focus on the process rather than looking straight to the end goal, each step forward is a success. If you’re goal oriented, you’re failing until you’ve succeeded. That leads me to another book recommendation, but I’ll save it for another day. Stay tuned!
I’ll leave you with one more thought to get you working towards your next goal: “What’s the best way to move a mountain? One rock at a time.” Now get moving!
